Tooth Extractions

Tooth extractions sometimes become necessary when a tooth is too damaged or compromised to be saved — but at Beautiful Smiles, we make sure the process is as

gentle and painless as possible.

Here’s why a tooth might need to be extracted:

Severe Decay: When a cavity has gone too deep and the tooth can’t be repaired with a filling or crown.

Advanced Gum Disease: If infection has weakened the bone supporting the tooth.

Impacted Wisdom Teeth: When wisdom teeth don’t erupt properly and cause pain, crowding, or infection.

Overcrowding: Sometimes teeth need to be removed to make room for orthodontic treatment like Invisalign.

Broken Teeth: When a tooth is fractured beyond repair.

Infection or Abscess: If an infection threatens to spread and can’t be resolved with a root canal.

At Beautiful Smiles, our top priority is to ensure your comfort. Doctor Hosny uses

modern techniques and advanced anesthesia options to provide a virtually painless experience.

Throughout the process, we focus on keeping you relaxed and informed — and after the extraction, we provide clear aftercare instructions and follow-up support to promote fast, comfortable healing.

If you’re worried about a tooth that may need to be removed, Beautiful Smiles will carefully evaluate your situation and only recommend extraction when it’s truly necessary — always prioritizing your comfort and long-term dental health.

How do Tooth Extractions Work?

Tooth extractions work by carefully removing a tooth from its socket in the jawbone.

First, a local anesthetic numbs the area by blocking pain signals.

The tooth is held in place by the periodontal ligament, and the dentist uses
gentle pressure and rocking motions to stretch and break these fibers, loosening the tooth.

Once loose, the tooth is lifted out with forceps.

After removal, platelets form a blood clot in the socket, which protects the bone and nerves and starts the healing process.

Over time, the bone and soft tissue regenerate, restoring the area.

At Beautiful Smiles, Doctor Hosny advanced tools and techniques to make this process
safe, gentle, and pain-free.

Tooth Extraction After-care

After a tooth extraction, proper aftercare is key to healing quickly and avoiding complications.

Here’s what to do:

Control Bleeding: Keep the gauze pad in place for about 30-45 minutes after the procedure. If bleeding continues, replace with fresh gauze and apply gentle pressure.

Protect the Blood Clot: A clot forms in the socket to help healing — avoid disturbing it! For 24 hours, avoid rinsing, spitting, drinking through a straw, or smoking, as these can dislodge the clot and lead to dry socket.

Manage Swelling and Pain: Apply an ice pack to the area for 10-15 minutes at a time during the first 24 hours to reduce swelling. Take prescribed pain relievers and over-the-counter medication as directed.

Eat Soft Foods: Stick to cool, soft foods like yogurt, applesauce, mashed potatoes, and smoothies (without a straw)for the first day or two. Avoid hot, spicy, crunchy, or chewy foods.

Rest and Take It Easy: Avoid strenuous activity for at least 24 hours— too much movement can increase bleeding and swelling.

Keep It Clean: After 24 hours, rinse gently with warm salt water(1 tsp of salt in a glass of warm water)several times a day to reduce bacteria and keep the area clean. Avoid brushing directly on the extraction site for a few days.

Watch for Warning Signs: If you experience severe pain, heavy bleeding, swelling after 2-3 days, or signs of infection(like fever or pus), call Beautiful Smiles right away.

We can also schedule a follow-up visit to check your healing. If you have any questions or discomfort, don’t hesitate to reach out — we’re here to support your smooth recovery!
